Heads up Melbourne peeps.
And any business that wants to tap into the lucrative Autism family market. Cause Autism families are pretty damn awesome even if I do say so myself.
A few weeks ago a proposal landed in my inbox that had me intrigued. Which is TOTALLY amazing because most of them go straight to trash (hot tip, don’t say you love my blog and been reading for years and then offer me maternity/baby gear. That ship as sailed. On a bitter sea.) because they are totally inappropriate, ridiculous or just utter crap.
Others I send a polite ‘thanks but no thanks’ if they have actually made an effort.
But this? This is freaking awesome.
The peeps at Sovereign Hill get it.
They get that our kids with Autism – big and small – have issues that prevent them from accessing theme parks and the like.
Shit, some days we can’t even go to the supermarket it is just too much for Boo.
So they have come up with supports and modifications and OMG SOCIAL STORIES to ensure that our dudes and dudettes can be included.
As well as their siblings.
And that in its self is HUGE.
The Damn Emos missed out on so much growing up. And holidays were a big thing.
If only something like this was available back then.
On April 5, Sovereign Hill will be hosting an Autism Awareness day. Here are the deets:
Early entry! Social Stories! Quiet Area mapped out! Avoiding Loud Noises!
I am so damn impressed.
Good on you Sovereign Hill, lets hope other organisations take your lead.
Do you know of any attractions/restaurants/theme parks/etc that cater for special needs like this? Cause they totally need a shout out!
N.B. I was offered a family pass to Sovereign Hill for the Autism Awareness Day to write a post but I would totally have written the post and shared on social media any way because I am THAT impressed.
