Yesterday we went to the specialist school for a looksee.
It fucking ROCKED.
Boo loved every second of it, walked right in and sat down and beamed.
Small classes – no more than 7 kids per class – with a teacher and an aide.
A MALE aide! OMG AWESOMENESS.
Every room he just walked in and introduced himself to everyone and then asked for their names.
He was a tad confused with the laid back nature of the classes, especially calling the teachers by their first names. Insisting on calling them Mr and Mrs ‘like my other school’.
He picked a locker and a seat.
He checked out the toilets and the gym. Announcing that the gym would be perfect for his movie and that the principal will play the vice principal as the principal role has already been cast.
As we left he said the school was ‘awesome, so awesome’
I asked him if it was as awesome as his current school and he said ‘different awesome’
HUZZAH!
He will be going every Tuesday for this term to see how it goes and the principal will do everything in her power to get my dodecahedron boy enrolled there.
I am hoping like fuck this place is a good fit and some fucking boffin in a cubicle will let us bend the rules a little and Boo will get to go to high school.
Afterwards we went shopping and I bought him a DVD and some lunch to celebrate the awesomeness of both his schools.
Still on a high we got home to find the power cut.
I wont go into the details here, the important thing is that there was no power.
So no lights.
So no sound.
So no DVD players or computers or internet.
I thought that Boo would lose his shit but he didn’t.
He went quiet.
He just stared and stared and was almost catatonic.
He refused to move.
He refused to EAT.
He was paralysed with fear.
In the end, because there seemed to be no easy and quick resolution, we packed up the car and drove to my parents house.
Where he sat. Quiet. Refusing to move or eat and just staring off into space.
I have never seen him so stressed.
I think I would prefer a screaming meltdown to this terrified catatonic boy.
We ended up staying at my parents for the night, Boo quietly putting himself to bed with my laptop screening High School Musical on loop.
Finally, late this afternoon the power was restored.
I almost have my boy back, but not quite.
The best of times and the worst of times in a 24 hour period.
Now I must go and empty the contents of my freezers into the bin.
Fuck it.
{tomorrow I get to go to the city and hug on a few of my biatches at a bloggers brunch. I will be tweeting – you can follow me here – so fucking excited for the break from the insanity that is my life I could spit. But I won’t cause it is not ladylike to spit and also I have never actually mastered the art of spitting elegantly. Obviously}

Glad school went well. As I’m always Fiona to students and staff alike, I get uncomfortable in schools that try to make me go as Miss M… :\ I usually say Fiona’s fine, or insist on Ms if they push
What a fantastic first day for Boo! I really hope that they can pull some strings and get him in there full time.
ooh ooh ooh. that’s so exciting.
The first half of this had me going ***happy dance!!!***
but the second half made me so sad. Poor Boo. I hope he’s back to his awesome self soon. And I hope insurance will cover the contents of the freezer!
Loads of hugs.
Yay on the new school being Awesome.
Told he’d rock it, fingers crossed he gets in permanently.
Have fun at the blogger’s meet up, I’ll think of you while I have my head down the S bend.
Yay for the school being “so awesome”. Sucks about your power, poor darling boy, I hope he’s feeling more himself soon.
So glad the school visit went well
Glad about the school visit — sounds fantastic! Pity about the meat. Did a possum get fried somewhere?
Crossing fingers, toes, LEGS (husband is away for 2 months) And even my HAIR that Boo gets to rock the new school.
I hope the school fairies grant your wishes and Boo gets to attend the awesome new school.
The universes fucktastic way of keeping things balanced I guess. Hopefully, the awesome of the school is going to be a long-term awesome, and stressed-out Boo is very short lived.
Fingers crossed for schoolage
Oh YAY for the schools where are children ‘fit’.
The other part? Not so much.
Soaringly thrilling to read about how well things went at the school and total yayness for a Principle who wants to help.
I hope when you pick up your Boo today, he is back to his bouncier self and has put the electrical loss behind him. That silent self sounded so sad.
Yay for the awesomeness of school!!
Yay too, for a MALE aide!
Sucky about the power though.
Has Boo never experienced a power outage before this?
I sincerely hope that once he processed and recovered from the silence he didn’t do so with a meltdown of epic proportions.
A discussion of how and why these things happen would be good when/if Boo is prepared to listen.
And an ipod with plenty of spare batteries to keep him tuned in maybe? One with some of his favourite shows loaded.
Hoo-raa! SO glad the school is such a good fit!
…AND, you run the risk of it dripping down your chin and looking particularly drunk. (The inexpertly spat, spit.)
Oh, I wish I’d read this before we saw each other yesterday. (((hugs)))
Insurance might cover the freezer contents. Mine did when my freezer died.
I am sorry about the power outtage – glad it’s back though.
And YAY for loving the new school that is so awesome. Yay!
