Today Moo turns 18.
EIGHTEEN.
This holy terror…
is now taller than me, but really no different except that beautiful blonde hair is now black and green.
When I woke this morning she was all ready awake, sitting up in bed all expectant. PRESENTS!
Which is where the fucking with the mind comes in.
Moo has been lusting after a MacBook, desperately hinting and not so hinting at perhaps maybe we, if we loved her at ALL and were good parents, should purchase one for her birthday. And we were all whatever brat, go and put the washing away.
And we bought one. Of course. Cause we are suckers. And just a little bit afraid. I mean LOOK AT THAT PHOTO!
But, you know, we couldn’t make it that easy for her so planted seeds of we couldn’t afford it and maybe she would prefer something more permanent, yada yada.
So last night I wrapped up an old ring case with a note:
OMG you should have seen her face! It was priceless. Totally ‘present face’. You know the face you pull when you really really want something but you get some other shit and you are all ‘Wow! Thankyou! It is just what I wanted!’ and the whole time you are just dying inside.
Kinda like me on every birthday and Christmas. Cause MOTY has NO CLUE when it comes to presents.
Anyway… the note directed her to the hall cupboard and there was the MacBook. The new, shiny, just released MacBook.
*sigh*
And she lost her mind and has been playing on it ever since. She probably wont shower.
Tonight we are going out to dinner with her friends to the place I went to on my 18th birthday. How freaking COOL is that!
And we will be taking along her birthday cake.
A sushi cake with little asian girls, modelled on Kimmidoll.
The sushi is made of fruit rollups, LCM bars, red licorice and jelly snakes
the bowl of ’soy sauce’ and chopsticks are fondant
We have been walking around all day saying ‘So Kawaii’
I am considering dressing as a Harajuku girl. But it wont embarrass her nearly enough for the effort involved.
Happy Birthday Moo. I love you.

When I was 13 I wanted a pair of gray ankle boots (yes, I know, shut up) for Christmas SO MUUUUUUCH that I begged and yelled and threatened and cajoled. Finally my mom ordered them and they arrived and I knew exactly what that box was when I saw it in the Christmas present hiding place that I wasn’t supposed to know about. But even though I KNEW it was the boots, I just HAD to open the box, so I DID, and they were beautiful, and I loved them, and I tried them on and danced around the house in them. THen I put them back in the box and my dumb 13-year-old ass SCOTCH TAPED the box back together because I didn’t know where the masking tape was and it seriously never even occurred to me that my mom *might* be smart enough to figure out that UPS didn’t Scotch tape their packages together.
A few days later, there was the box, all wrapped in shiny paper, under the tree, and it took everything I had not to show that I knew, oh yes, I KNEW.
When Christmas morning came I actually had a talk with myself about acting surprised when I opened them. I practiced my surprised look and gasp! in the mirror. But it turned out, I did NOT need to practice. Because when I opened that motherfucker, it was A FRAMED PICTURE OF MY MOM.
Of course she knew I’d opened the box — OF COURSE she did. So she framed and wrapped a picture of herself to fuck with me.
It worked.
I couldn’t do anything except pretend to be thrilled with a framed picture of my mom. Because anything else would bust me for snooping and opening my boots.
She made me BEG. BEG.
She was, and is, a cruel, cruel woman. Cruel, and AWESOME. I aspire to be her one day.
And this? This is the longest comment EVER.
Happy birthday MOO!
