I have been trying to write a post.
A post to thank. A post to calm. A post to share.
But I just can’t deal right now.
I am fine. The house is fine. The kids are fine.
And you know what ‘fine’ means. So yeah.
Too many friends have lost homes. Still more are trapped, not allowed to leave.
Others lost their lives defending their homes, caught unawares or in their cars.
Dead in their cars.
Dead in their cars.
S lost her house. A car burnt in front with the remains of another friends relative inside.
But we don’t know which one.
My head is reeling. So many dead. So many homeless. So many still in the line of fire. So many stories.
The sky is orange. But the world is grey. Covered in ash.
I just can’t deal.

It must be tremendously difficult down there. I can’t even begin to imagine what you are going through. You’re in my thoughts.
Every time I hear a news report with an updated death toll I feel sick
Oh babe, wish there was more that I could do than send condolences and keep spreading the word. Sending hugs (er… have typed that twice once because I typed hogs, and once because I typed jugs… guess hugs is better eh?) and good vibes. If you need anything just holler ‘k?

Nothing much to say. Madly trying to organise a bunch of geeks to get a better understanding of what went wrong and how to prevent it happening again in Australia. Reading academic risk quantification papers is not easy at the moment, but apart from donating some more, it is the best way I can cope.
Big hugs, Kel. We love you.

No words.
I’m constantly logged into the newspaper site to keep up. I’m trying focus on survivor stories, otherwise I just lose it completely.
Trying to focus on the good, and even the absurd, somehow lessens the shock and horror of the reality of it all.
Did you read about the guy that saved only his horse, and a beer? Jesus, I’ve never been so glad to hear about an alive horse in my life. The fact that the guy also just grabbed a beer, shows you the enormity and ridiculousness of it all, like he was saying, “Well I’m totally F*cked so best get the horse and take a beer for the road, screw everything else!”

Gods, I am so sorry to hear that S lost her house, but I hope that her and her entire family made it out and are safe.
I am dreading reading the newspaper or watching the news because every update brings a higher death toll. I can not imagine this happening to me and my friends and going through what you are going through now.
Take time to grieve and regroup. Let us know if you need anything, anything at all.

Very sorry about your friends, and very glad you and your family are ‘fine’ in that ‘fine’ kind of way. (Which of your children is worrying you most?) I hope the Bureau is wrong about the teeny amount of rain they have predicted for your area and you get a reasonable deluge. Love & prayers…

Just adding my thoughts and prayers to the long list.
Hang in there lady!
I’ve been lurking but now, find myself in tears over the news and just had to send some word of support, I just don’t know what word that is. I too have lived through 25 years of So. California fires (most of them also arson) but none with this kind of loss of life. I am truly horrified by what is happening to you and everyone in Victoria, New South Wales and Yarra Valley, and wish I had more comfort to offer than just a few words of solidarity.
Please don’t take any stupid risks. Its just not worth it. Stay safe and stay online, you have plenty of friends here in the blogosphere and we need to know you are OK.

The TV says hell on earth, and your photos look like you are living in Dante’s inferno.
I can’t imagine what you are going through and send you love and hope – feeling the impotence of both.
I woke up this morning, with a strong sense that you are a writer, living through this. And if/when you can write more fully of this experience, your story will contribute to the processing and grieving of people whose lives have been affected and the understanding of people watching from a distance.
There are no words to express my deep sympathy for what you and your neighbors are going through. You are in my heart and prayers and wishes. If there is anything I can do including putting together care packages say the word. I’m good at organizing and have the resources. I’m so sorry this is happening. Much Love,
Molly
Oh hon. I can’t imagine. The fires here in Colorado have been bad in recent years, but NOTHING like this. My prayers are with you and your family and friends. Take care hon, and an extra kiss for Boo. I can’t imagine how he’s processing this.

Dealing takes time. We had tons of fires on the west coast before we moved. I remember hos scary it was when they were so close and hurting so many. Just take your time with the dealing. Glad you are safe.
