It is getting in the way of my online time.
My house smells like a bunneh took like a bajillion craps and a kid used his bedding as a toilet. Well that would be cause they did.
These humans I inhabit this house with keep looking at me and wanting to converse and shit.
Can’t I just tweet them or something?
I sit and try and compose a post and Boo comes and wants to hug me and play. And I am all ‘shit WHY must you be so freaking adorable? I have like eleventy hundred blogs in my reader to read, comments to reply to and there are 47 unread Plurks and 20 new Tweets!’
Obsession, thy name is Kelley.
So while I go set a small fire in my driveway so the hunky firemen
ooooh *drool* work that broom baby! ooooh yeah!
can hose out the filth in my house and maybe make something to eat that contains vegetable matter, I will ask you this question:
Why did you name your blog the name that you named it like?
Or in English.
What made you choose the name of your blog?
I get asked this all the time. Someone once said they thought my blog name was A Magnet To Behold. Hmmm, freaky. And why would I behold on a magnet? Would that get me smited? Cause I know there has been some freaky shit going on lately which could constitute some smiting action.
Might get Boo to write an email.
Anyway, for the 3 of you that were wondering.
Magneto Bold is a font. ~ Well, derr Kelley, we knew that. What you think we read Perez Hilton or something?
And Boo is a font savant. ~ A what?
He likes fonts, like a real lot. And knows them on sight. Like those guys that can tell you what day of the week you were born, even if you are like really old and shit. ~ Oh. Like Rainman and those toothpicks?
Yeah, sorta. And not. But yeah, lets go with that. ~ OK.
And Boo’s favourite font is Magneto Bold. Well it fucking WAS, now he is all about the Arial Rounded MT Bold but that would just sound stupid as a blog name. ~ Um, you think? MagnetoBoldToo is a pretty freaky name for a blog you know.
Yeah fuck off. ~ Continue biatch and stop abusing me.
So Boo really likes fonts. So I want to be as popular with him as his fonts. SO I wanna be Magneto Bold Too. Get it? Get it? Tell me I am brilliant.
*crickets*

For those of you that have subscribed and Bloglines has been playing funny arsehats, I took the ‘nuclear option’ (WTF is with that? Some scary shit if you call it ‘nuclear’!) with Feedburner and I hope all is fixed. If not, please tell me and I will go and tear out another chunk of hair. Just to even it up..

My blog is called Dancing About Architecture. It comes from my favourite quote,”Talking about love is like dancing about architecture.” I thought it was an appropriate title for a blog that about completely random things and defies a nice simple description.
Is it on your about page or something? I remember wondering too..but went a searchin an found the answers. Of course you are brilliant, think it’s great name.
Mines boring, it started out as a business name, but I got lazy and didn’t want to work anymore..so save wasting a perfectly good domain, turned it into a blog. Meezer is like a nickname for siaMESE cats..they are crazy as am I.
I was wondering; now I wonder no more. It is a brilliant blog name.
Mine is just incredibly boring… I came up with it when I first started blogging; sleep deprived, nursing a 4 month old and getting used to being a SAHM to 2. I just added the “glass at a time” to make it more interesting … or to acknowledge that I’m likely a lot more fun when I’ve had a few …
I knew this already. MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Yes, because I was one of the horrible people who asked you. LOL.
I’ll cut and paste why my blog name is what it is from my blog because I’m lazy:
“It’s an homage to my real name, Maria Del Rosario, which translates into ‘Mary of the Rosary’. I was named for the Virgin Mary, the holy mother. Do I live up to her name? Nope. I’m the opposite really, so that’s why I’m immoralmatriarch. Simple as that. Oh, catechizer? That’s basically someone who teaches religious doctrine. I consider this blog to be a doctrine of my life, and I’m teaching it to each of you.”
Mine is “Food from Afar” which is from Proverbs 31, verse 14 (the verse that authorises all us Proverbs 31 women to order take away lol) My blog explores my search for “food”(of the literal and figurative kind)which nourishes. Tha “afar” relates to my love of travel and the exotic as well as inspiration from friends and other sources who live “afar” both geographically and historically.
I couldn’t think of a cute, vowely one-word url that hadn’t been taken.
Well, Mr. Hot came up with the name of my blog. He never reads it, but he named it.
And of course you are brilliant. I’m just pissed I wasn’t the first commenter and I’m up at 11:30 p.freakin’.m.
well my url is from an e-mail addy I had create without thinking for ebay to sell something (misc_thing as in miscellaneous things). Didn’t realize how awful it sounded until I was giving it to someone over the phone “Miss Thang?” No, that’s not what I said…” So the title is Tis My Life. Because that’s all my blog is, bits and pieces of my life, things I feel compelled (or take the time) to document, for better or for worse.
My house smells like bunny poop too, and we don’t have bunnies. Crap.
I wondered for a long time what on earth the title of your blog meant. Not being well versed in font names, I kept thinking of Magneto from The X Men, which I knew had nothing to do with it, but… some things stick in your head. Cool blog name, great reason for it.
My blog name is pretty simple, I’m a mommy and I only make it through life courtesy of the power of caffeine. Hence, Latte Mommy. Not genius, but it works for me.
I named my blog Shamelessly Sassy, because I like alliteration. And more often than not, the name is fitting.
“from the planet of janet” was on a pad of paper that i got from a stationery store when i was, like, 8 or 9.
seemed logical to use that when it came time to name a blog 🙂
The more I read about Mr. Boo, the more I am drawn into his world. I want to be a font… I am now only to be known as Century Gothic. Can’t you just see the nice rounded letters???
I love me some crazy-amazing Boo 🙂
Kel: That was so neat that you named your blob what you did because of BOO! Gets me right in the heart!
Hey, any correspondence with Tonya yet…?
That’s a great story! I wondered about the name every time I read a new post of yours. Now I don’t need to wonder…lol
Which blog of mine do you want to know about?
Mummified Times Five came about because I’ve been made a mum 5 times.
Housewife Hiccups came about because of me wanting to be the perfect housewife and there are definitely going to be hiccups along the way…lol
The Original Mx5 is my original Mummified Times Five blog.
The other two are pretty obvious and I think I’ve used enough of your comment space so I’ll leave them out…lol
Very interesting topic reading how everyone came up with their blog names.
It is so. hard. to come up with something when you first start blogging.
I get the same thing. Except for me it’s “you’ve spelt Lightning wrong”. *sigh* Okay, yeah, it wasn’t ME that spelt it wrong. And it’s a NAME. How can you spell a name wrong???? I was my nickname at school but has come to mean so much more throughout my blogging journey.
As for yours – well, anyone who’s read every single post you’ve written should know. 😉
I just realised you don’t actually have an “about” page. Well, not an obvious one anyway. Do you have an explanation on your “magnetobold players” page? I should go and reread some of your pages. It’s been a while.
i think its a great name and have always wondered what it stood for and how you came up with it.
Mine is Shabby Pink Scrapper.
Shabby – i love shabby chic
Pink – my favorite color is pink
Scrapper – and im a scrapbooker
not very original i know lol. but everything else was taken.
We were obliged to blog for Uni. My blog’s name was “an awful lot of us”. This comes from Douglas Adams
“One of the most important things you learn from the internet is that there is no “them” out there. It’s just an awful lot of “us”.”
I really wish you’d put that pic of the firemen at the bottom of your posting. That’s about as far as I got for a good 10 minutes.
I named the blog that name because I’m very unimaginative and it seems to say exactly what the blog is about. 😆
Hahaha, do you need to ask me why I named my blog Sleepless Nights?
Mine’s called called womb4improvement, because I’m trying to have a baby and considering the time it is taking to get up the duff there is clearly some room for improvement (I know … sorry)
I’m a bit insane because I knew that Magneto Bold was a font so I knew that you named your blog after a font (which, ’cause I’m a little odd, I thought was particularly clever). But the story behind it is more awesome.
I’ve actually changed mine several times because I started out as our last name and where we were living at the time. Then we moved so I changed it. Then I got more readers and didn’t so much like the idea of everyone knowing who I am and where I am, so I changed it again. I’ve settled on Slightly Cracked which is from a children’s book (Eggbert, the slightly cracked egg) because he goes out into the world and finds out that the world is full of cracks and that it’s beautiful that way.
I suppose some people reading this might want to know from whence my blog title came and I can understand that, as I often wonder where the blog titles that aren’t immediately obvious come from. This title is one I played with for quite a while before using it as the header for a weblog; namely, when I wrote a poem or short story with a certain bent, I would often find myself toying with the whole “seeing the world through rose colored glasses” saying and how I could put my own unique filter on the concept.
I wrote a short story a few years ago, loosely based on one of my sorority sisters and the main theme of it was how the protagonist’s child-like spirit and eternal optimism persisted, despite a terminal illness, and how that same spirit should be passed on to our youngsters. Anyway, I kept coming back to how I depicted the main character and then my own reaction to her optimism, which was appreciative, but somewhat more jaded and wistful.
When I decided to quit blogging in the encapsulated world of Myspace and to develop an actual independant blog, I was stumped. Blogs are typically shuffled into categories: Mommy Blogs, Parenting Blogs, Photography Blogs, Recipe Blogs, and on and on but you don’t really see a “Single Woman Struggling to Make A Decent Living On Her Own” category. And that’s all this was when I first began Lilac Colored Glasses. It was just me, just a young woman living her day to day life and trying to do the best she could with it. I had recently emerged from a very trying, tumultuous, disastrous period and I was finally ready to get back to something I loved: writing.
I’ll never be able to see the world through rose colored glasses. There will always be some jaded wistfulness. There will always be a little bit of blue. My world will always be lilac.
It’s directly from my about page…I’m lazy on saturdays
Veronica was helping me set up my Myspace page and I needed an URL. Frogpondsrock just popped into my head and behold…… here I am
cheers Kim 🙂
That is quite brilliant! I must admit, I have been wondering all this time 🙂
I think my blog (Momisodes) is fairly self-explanatory.
Mom + Episodes came from…..
Me= mom, Me= short attention span that can barely make it through a TV show, Girl toddler= endless drama.
I already had the domain name because I was coding websites for other psychics. But they came to me directly, not through the site, so I used it for my blog. Thus psychicgeek was born.
Ya know I’ve always wondered why you named yr blog what you did… thanks for the explanation! 😀
As for me, J actually came up with it, I have no imagination, so I tried to figure out something but it was all rubbish… the name I chose was the first thing to come out of his mouth when I asked for his help.
Musings of a Teaching Mother – it’s not all that exciting. I didn’t want something that would allow me to be easily identified.
Musings – because usually I’ve been thinking about stuff all day before I blog and it’s often stuff that I haven’t worked out yet – like how to live a balanced life and get all the laundry done.
Teaching – because that’s what I do at home and at school
Mother – my main job in life.
I’ve always wondered where yours came from!
*snickers* I always thought that it was some sort of coffee brew!! You had me fooled with the coffee beans in the background lol. But it’s a very sweet story.
I am not sure of my blogs name… Nicki’s Knickers is sort of a play on “airing out your dirty laundry” and how your knickers are something so personal…and my blog is quite personal. Nickoaletta is my middle name, and I’ve never gone by Nicki but it fit so yeh lol Not too original, but hey…
Xbox4NappyRash because I decided to trade my ‘x-box’ for ‘Nappy rash’, fucking hilarious isn’t it? I thought so too.
63 years later I’m still fucking laughing.
bloglines is still screwed btw.
Great story. If I did it my blog name would be “Underpants Too!”
I hardly ever read all the comments like I just did.
And I was one of the duh, no idea what magneto bold is. How old is boo I’m lost?
And if you don’t mind (and I’ll link you of courses) can I copy this post? I’ve been needing to explain my own blog name, I once did it in a stretch of emails…
Anyway, mine’s from a Stephen Sondheim Musical, the name of a song. I first heard the song sung in a Mandy Patinkin Concert.
Mine is called
Help I Have A Teenager! I started it when my teenager was doing all kinds of weird and destuctive stuff, so I could vent about it. But I also have other issues and kids so I thought about changing it…. but that seemed like to much work!
Yes, I love you and I DO wanna get drunk!
Well, so much for my thought that it was a wicked awesome drink. 😉
Never a Dull Moment was what I was saying constantly about the time I started writing. I’ve never been able to use that as my actual blog address, so I’m thinking of changing it to Laughing At Chaos, which is the addy and the email. Half of people’s blogrolls have one, half have the other. Eh…as long as they come by. LOL!
That is a novel approach to naming a blog. I changed mine it was originally named, ‘From Hell’. I wanted to make it a little more tongue in cheek so I changed it to ‘From Evyl With Love.’ It also fit well with my header pic.
Dirt simple. I’m the world’s biggest Smashing Pumpkins fan. It was going to be “I’m the root of all that’s evil, but you can call me cookie” but I just *knew* every smartass and his mongrel dog would start each reply with “hello cookie” so I abandoned that choice.
Mine is “Our Great Southern Land”.
Because “Whip Me, Spank Me and Cover Me In Gravy” scared history buffs too much 😛
I like Arial a lot too. It’s clean, it’s easy to read. Excellent choice, Boo.
I think it’s pretty obvious why I named my blog Stimeyland. Nickname + little imagination = Stimeyland.
Riayn: I always wondered what it meant. It is such a lovely sounding name!
Leigh: I think I blogged about it briefly last year, or it might have been on Aussie Bloggers or something. I guessed yours, being a cat person and all. Guess you don’t like my throwing cat references hey?
Karen: I think most of us when we start blogging don’t realise that the name will become our brand. I am more fun with a few wines too! Well, at least I think I am. *snort*
Maria: I always wondered what the catechizer meant! But I was too lazy to look it up 😛
Wendy: I have been meaning to look up this Proverbs 31 bizzo. I am thinking I am probably the anti Proverbs 31 woman. Except for the takeaway. I can do that. Well I make MPS go get it…
Deb on the Rocks: What like Dooce? *snort*
Ree: Will email you before I post again OK babe? Yeah, not.
Ange: Maybe you have rats. Bwaaaaaa haaaaa haaaaaaa
Latte Mommy: Being one of the 5 people in the world that have NOT seen The X Men I wondered why I was getting all these freaking weird searches. Soon I wised up. Better than those Mario Pron losers.
Shamelessly Sassy: And I love you because of it.
The planet of Janet: That is AWESOME! If I did that my blog name would be ‘from the desk of Kelley’ or ‘hello Kitty’.
Maternal Mirth: Century Gothic? Damn Emo.
Coast Rat: 🙂 Well it was supposed to be all about him. And housework. *gaffaw*
Tina: Yeah, I pretty much guessed all of yours right off the bat.
Lightening: Every time I see the word spelt wrong I think of you now!
Nicole: But descriptive so people know what they are gunna get. With mine they are all ‘What does that even MEAN?’ and then I hit them with the f bomb.
JodieOdie: We lovez us some Dougy here.
Solomon: Bwaaaaa haaaaa haaaaa! I had to wipe my chin…
Veronica: Um, I guess not.
Womb4improvement: Very clever!
Kylie: You should steal a pic, I mean legally download, of the egg for your header, it would be so cute!
Lilacspecs: Lazy biatch. I thought you typed that all out for me. Interesting though!
Frogpondrock: MySpace? *shudder* I would NEVER get off this thing if I had myspace too…
Sandy: I really like your blog name, witty and memorable!
Witchypoo: Brillant name too!
Marilyn: see, men are good for something…. 😉
Tess: but it is informative. People know what they are gunna get!
Nickoal: I used to be BFF in high school with a Nickoaletta and a Nictaria! Nickoaletta had 2 sisters called Roula and Soula. I think she lucked out in the name department.
BoxBoy: I prefer BoxBoy, cause it puts you back in your box. Rat fuck sonofabitch re the Bloglines fucking arsehat bastard.
Lunasea: *snort* that would be cool! Perhaps as your byline…
good&crazy: Don’t have to ask to link babe. It is all good. Boo is 9. But really just like a toddler. A really fucking TALL toddler.
Insane Mama: Help me I have TWO! Lets get drunk.
Jen: I love Laughing at Chaos. It reminds me of ‘I fart in your general direction’ hmmmm wonder if that blog name has been taken…
Pure Evyl: Your header pic scares me…
Anja: You know I am gunna do it. You know I will not be able to help it. You know you are always gunna be cookie to me now…
Jayne: *snort* they are usually dirty old bastards anyway…
Stimey: But what does STIMEY mean then???
Everyone else I’ve told is dead now. I like you too much. So there’s that.
Well, I’m a mommy with a mood disorder, amongst other issues. And I’m pretty all over the place. And a lot of the stuff I write is pretty angsty and dark and reeks of fiona apple.
The pseudonym is the what I wanted to name my daughter. I didn’t get a 50% vote.
And here is me thinking your blog title meant that you were a brave superhero daring to go where no blogger had gone before. Come to think of it it is appropriate in this way too 🙂
Don’t think you should change the name to Arial rounded – would make you sound like a fat fairy.
I checked and my ‘puter doesn’t have magneto bold in its font list, so I can never see what it looks like. My favourite font is comic sans ms.
Great topic Kelley!
I’m loving the question (groan). No, really, that’s the name of my blog.
“Loving The Question” came from a journal group I belonged to, where the facilitator would encourage us to just pose ourselves a question and then write back to ourselves, channeling our inner wisdom or whatever. We didn’t have to know THE answer, just to trust and love the question, and know that one day, in some way, it would be answered.
I’m fascinated to hear the story of Boo’s influence on the name of your blog. I knew it was a font, but I’d never heard of anyone – outside of a newspaper/publishing office – knowing so much about fonts. I love em too, but I’m really crap at remembering the names.
There is an online game to see if you can identify fonts, I’ll see if I can find the link and send it to you for Boo. Hang on…trying not to lose your comment page….Ahhah!
You probably already have this site bookmarked…
http://fontgame.ilovetypography.com/
BTW thanks for the birthday wishes
Cheers
Mr Lady: Such a tease. Always with the teasing…
ZoeyJane: Wish I thought of that. I didn’t get to name my girls what I wanted either…
SueBlimely: well you got the fat part right. Goddamn stupid broken scales..
River: neither did mine. It is a rather ugly font anyway!
Laura: OMG! I just spent ages playing that! Boo wouldn’t help me. Bastard. Smug bastard.
Well, mine is pretty easy – I am jeanie (well, online peeps) and I live in Paradise.
lol – I was dorky enough to scratch my head three times when I first found your blog and think “but that is a font name” – but it is a far more awesome blog name.
Yes, you ARE brilliant. My blog name comes from my initials – LCL – except I added my first name, ‘Lou’. Just that simple. Just that unoriginal.
I was a very active member of an online cooking forum a few years ago. One day everyone added a ‘kins’ to their name and fionakins didn’t fit, but fifikins kinda did. So it stuck. I’ve half kept a private blog for a few years and that was kinda self explanatory (dealing with living with someone with mental illness), but when I decided to go public, I just felt fifikins it would be.
Oh and in an aside, I used Ms Fifikins as my online dating profile name for a while and was told it sounded like a pron* star or something. Whatever! Actually, I might go redesign my blog and have an over 21 entry yes/no thingy…
*Just went to post this and WP said that it had been flagged because it had that word in it with the vowell after the first letter, not the second. Um ah! I’m a naughty girl, really!
Oh… I think that is pretty cool. I like the story behind it. I like that your title keeps people on their toes too. 😉
Oooooooooooooh.
Solomon: Bwaaaaa haaaaa haaaaa! I had to wipe my chin…
See, there’s a lot of jokes I could make from that…
Jeanie: You are one of the few that know it as a font! So you still get brownie points for that!
lceel: But it is awesome cause I STILL have to stop and think how to spell it!
Fiona: Yeah it is funny that the comment thingy allows shit and fuck but not pussy or porn… and I am gunna allow it cause the freakshows don’t scare me. Yet.
ohmommy: I didn’t think that I would stick with the whole blogging thing so never contemplated how many people would ask what it meant!
Greta: oooooooooooh what?
Solomon: *snort* I knew you would.
Meanwhile, Back at the Ranch started out as a way to let the family and friends back home know how I was doing away at uni. So… this is what’s happening down here, how are things ‘back at the ranch.’ Get it? No? It always sounds better in my head.
Magneto Bold Too! was always some sort of comet or star…don’t ask me, kay? I did eleventy hundred drugs back in day.
Huckdoll is a doll that hucks. Hucking is something you do while skiing and snowboarding. Those are things I do well. Did well.
Huck also rhymes with fuck…just to keep it interesting.
Hood because hoodies are my signature style and wardrobe staple AND I wanted a place where me and my readers could be hood rats on my turf and do what we want, say what we want, be what we want.
